A big welcome to the Year 6 area from Miss Dekeyzer, Mr Hipwell and Mrs Steele.
Year 6 are embarking on their final year at Diss CofE Junior Academy and we are looking forward to learning and growing together as a year group. We are aware that Year 6 can be a stressful time for pupils with end of year assessments and the transition to High School; we would like to encourage parents to speak to us about any worries they have so we can work together to find solutions.
What we are learning
In the final build up to SATs, we will be ensuring the children are as prepared as possible for their assessments.
Our book focus for the Summer Term will be Iron Man by Ted Hughes. We will be using this as the stimulus for a variety of different types of writing.
Our topic for creativity is 'Machines'. We will be investigating past inventions and the impact that they have made as well as how different machines work. The children will then have the opportunity to create their own machines.
In Science we will be learning about light. We will be using mirrors to investigate how light travels in straight lines and also splitting light using prisms.
PE kits should be brought into school on a Monday and taken home on Friday. Lessons are on Mondays and Wednesdays every week. This half term we will be focusing on gymnastics and dance.
