Regards from Mrs Doherty and Mrs Milne. We are fortunate to work with two teaching assistants across the year group: Mrs Doe and Mrs Eagle.
Weekly Learning Timetables
Please be aware that although both classes are learning the same things, the exact times may differ slightly by class to allow for PE (hall availability).
Year 3 Newsletters
Both 3M and 3D have P.E on Mondays and Tuesdays.
This term, we will be learning tennis on Mondays and Hockey on Tuesdays.
The expectation across year 3 is that PE kits come into school on a Monday, and then remain in school for the duration of the term. These will be sent home to be washed at the end of the term.
Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit, including clothing to match weather conditions such as jogging bottoms and jumpers when the weather gets colder. Please ensure all kit is named and that on PE days children with pierced ears have earrings removed and that any long hair is tied back when they come to school and remains tied up throughout the day.
The students in year 3 have homework set on a Thursday, which is due in by the following Tuesday.
- an online Sumdog Maths piece (logins will be issued shortly)
- a piece linked to our Creative Curriculum topic or maths
- times tables
It is helpful for students to practise a different times table each week. By the end of the year children need to know their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables.
As a team we value the time that you take to encourage your children to read regularly, practise their spellings and complete their homework. Should you have problems please see your class teacher as soon as possible.
There is a huge emphasis on reading within the curriculum and it is taught discretely in daily reading sessions. Reading is a core element in many other curriculum areas. Children are taught how to analyse a text through the 7 core strands. These strands focus on: vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval, summarising and sequencing.
Reading books will be changed after a book has been read a couple of times, this is to support your child's fluency and pace. Please remember to write in your child's reading log so we can ensure they are rewarded when they reach 50, 100 and 200 reads.
We are fortunate enough to have a fantastic library which the children are encouraged to use. They are able to access the library most mornings first thing and on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday lunchtime from 12:30 - 1:00pm.
If you have any questions, concerns or queries please come and see a member of the Year 3 team. We are available on the gate at the end of the school day or please arrange an appointment at the office if you require a longer meeting.
